Photos

Righto.. This will be a fairly long post (not word-wise) but the braces are off (hurrah!) and I've just got hold of all my copies of photos and x-rays so am going to try and get the full effect of before-after on here!

So to start with, front-on view, smiling 1) Pre-treatment 2)Pre-surgery after nearly 2 years of orthodontics, 3) Post surgery and de-bonding

And here, the same again, but side on mouth closed 'naturally':

And then just to finish off, teeth before/after treatment with a side-view x-ray of my hardware:

WOW, you look great. I get my braces off next month. One month shy of a full two years. I hope my results look as good as yours!

What a marvelous post! It so clearly demonstrates the positive changes that braces (and surgery) can make. You still look like you, totally, but your fuller smile and the increase in your overall facial balance is just gorgeous. :)

I wish I had taken such clear, comparative photographs.

Congratulations on your braces free smile. It must feel absolutely grand.

Katherine, these pictures are the ones my ortho took - I realised all too late that I never had any shots pre-treatment!

Thanks for the compliments everyone I can't tell you how wonderful it is to feel comfortable in my own skin, finally! It's so odd now, seeing old pictures of myself!

I still have a long ways to go. I will be scheduled for 2nd surgery at the first of the year. It's like starting over again... but it want be as bad.

Blessings to you!!!

What a marvelous change you've gone through. You were gorgeous before, but all of the changes just emphasized your good parts. :) How nice!!

Wow V, your results are fantastic! I'm in the same boat re having an underbite, and hopefully my surgery will be this December. Been a bit down about the whole thing lately, but seeing such results in you gives me some much-needed spirit for when my own time comes (if it ever does!)
Thanks for the blog

Ah yes I remember well reaching the point where the date is *there*... just so much out of reach. It was a difficult 4 months for me. But it will happen and then it'll be a whirlwind and you'll be so relieved! Good luck!! Shall follow your blog now I know who you are!! :) xxx

did you have any other procedures done along with the orthognathic surgery? such as chin reduction etc.

what a transformation! I am in the situation as you were Class III malocclusion . I am 2 months into my orthodontic treatment and cant really wait to go for the big snip snip. You look amazing and you blog has sort of given me some peace.

Did you have your maxilla advanced? I had a peek at your before and after pics and it looks as if you have a new nose! whas that cos the advancement?

V said...

Hi Nas,

Yes my maxilla was brought forward by 6mm - more than my mandible at only 4mm which surprised me! The drastic change to my nose was all because of this - it hasn't been touched by a surgeon!

I don't know whether I'm imagining it but I do think I can breathe through my nose easier too. Friends have also commented that my voice has changed also - in fact that's one of the first things that people have noticed about me, even though I don't think it's any different!

Good luck with your surgery, when is it? Keeping a blog was very cathartic for me personally - and it's a nice boost to have people encourage you post-op when you feel rotten!

The surgery is scheduled for next year November. I still have a long way to go but the ortho reckons my teeth will straighten out within 10-12 months.

Although I do appreciate your efforts, Writing a blog is not my thing. Maybe its just a bloke thing suffer in silence type of thing. Anyway I was reading the rebellious teenage years and it was as if it were a page out of my life.

Anywho thank you for this

Cheers

Oh you're results are sooo encouraging and reassuring! I have the same underbite as you have and surgery is about 3 months away. I'm quite worried about how I'll look at the end of it all.
Thank you so much for sharing.

An absolutely stunning change. I myself haven't done a lot of blogging and I remember that this was one of the earliest blogs I looked at. I'm so pleased it went well for you.
